How will you teach my child to float? Our program combines physical and educational components of water safety through individualized 1-on-1 float lessons, water safety milestones and Josh the Otter water safety education. At Float 4 Life we follow a Skilled Progression Guideline. The guideline ensures that each lesson is productive and taught in a kind and gentle manner. Float 4 Life has also identified water safety skills that are compatible with early childhood development. These skills are outlined in our Water Safety Milestone Chart, a guide that will document your child's float progression.

I’ve seen lessons online where they throw a child into the pool, does Float 4 Life use this teaching style?"No, at Float 4 Life we believe in teaching in a kind and gentle manner. Our coaches work very hard to establish a trusting relationship between them and each child. We believe that establishing a stolid relationship and foundation of trust the child will learn in an efficient manner while also having fun along the way! The only time a child jumps or falls into the pool is when it is part of the lesson and they are fully prepared for that next step.

How long will it take for my child to learn how to float? Our goal is for your child to be able to jump or fall into water and recover to a back float, fully clothed and without assistance from their coach. The number of lessons it will take to accomplish this will depend on: How consistent you are with scheduling lessons Your child's comfort level Your child’s individual personality Your child’s coordination and physical development Floating like many activities, generates anxiety in some children. This anxiety may be most evident on the first day of lessons. As each class progresses, your child’s anxiety should be less and less evident. Time, familiarity and consistency ease the anxiety. Remember this is a skill for life that you are giving your child.
-
How frequently should I schedule my child’s lessons? Each child is different and our program is designed to accommodate individual needs to optimize learning. Please take your child’s comfort level into consideration when making these decisions. If your child is frightened, we recommend scheduling lessons as frequently as possible.
-
At what age can I register my child for float lessons?Float lessons are offered to children as young as 6 months old.
-
Can I schedule all of my children at the same time?Lessons are one-on-one with coaches. Lessons may be able to be scheduled at the same time if more than one coach is available.
-
Can I stay and watch the float lessons?Parents are welcome to be in the pool area to watch, as long as their presence is not a distraction to the child. Alternatively, there is a monitor with a live-feed of the pool in the waiting area. In order for our coaches to effectively teach they need the child's full attention and trust. We kindly ask parents to move to an area where the child cannot see them if the child is distracted.
-
Should my child eat before a float lesson? Please do not feed your child or give them milk or juice one hour before a lesson. If your child is frightened or cannot hold their breath, not eating 3 hours prior is preferred. Nervous children often swallow air and potentially water which may cause them to vomit.
-
